4 Tips For Staying Fit If You’re Travelling These Holidays

By | December 29, 2018

Anyone who says they can’t work out while travelling is just looking for an excuse. As someone who travels regularly, I know it’s not always easy to squeeze in a sweat session, especially when space or equipment is limited, but it is possible. Here are my top tips for keeping on top of your fitness game when on holiday:

1. Get outdoors

Beautiful beaches, rainforests, bush and even desert. Swap your gym workouts for a walk or run and embrace the great outdoors. Try to find some stairs or a nice walking track, keep your phone in your pocket instead of in front of your face and enjoy the fresh air.

2. Pack a resistance band and sliders

3. Use your bodyweight

There’s no excuse to skip a workout when there are so many different exercises you can do using your own body weight. You can do a different workout every day just by switching up some or all of the exercises. An example of an awesome and effective body weight workout that can be done anywhere is:

  • Mountain climbers
  • Push-ups
  • Alternating lunge jumps
  • Crunch & punch (Sit-up with two punches at the top)
  • Sumo squats
  • Plank
  • Squat jumps

Do each exercise for 40 seconds with 20 seconds of rest in between exercises. Repeat the circuit 4 times and voila! Workout complete. You can choose 7 different exercises every day or mix up a few to have a dynamic workout that can be done anywhere, any time.

Whether you’re travelling for business or pleasure, I recommend doing your workout in the morning. If you’re having a wine with lunch or have meeting after meeting you want to get your workout done before the day gets away from you.

If none of the options above are your jam and you prefer going to a gym, then try to choose a hotel which some kind of training facility that suits you and your training needs.

Alternatively, do your research and stay somewhere that is local to some awesome gyms or studios where you can get some great workouts done in the morning before spending the day enjoying your holiday.
