6 Hair Care Mistakes That You Need To Stop Making

By | September 14, 2018

Strong, healthy hair is one of the factors that contribute to the beauty of a woman. However, few people know how to keep their stands shiny and maintain their locks at their loveliest. There are many hair habits that seem to be fine, but are actually the biggest culprits of dry, damaged, dull tresses.

Following are some hair care mistakes that you are making. I’m sure that you’ll be surprised to find out that your hair care routine may be more hurtful than helpful.

1. Shampooing everyday

A lot of people have the habit of washing their hair everyday but this is actually a serious mistake that needs to be stopped. Vigorous shampooing strips your hair of its natural oils, eventually fraying the cuticle, the outer layer of the hair shaft that protects the fragile inner filaments. If you have oily hair, you should shampoo it about every other day. If you have dry hair, you can hold off a little longer. Not only does day-old hair style better but it also looks better than freshly-washed hair.

2. Going multiple days without washing your hair

While shampoo everyday is a big hair care mistake, not washing it regularly is another factor that can also damage your hair. This is actually detrimental to your hair’s health because if you do not wash frequently, the bad bacteria on your scalp breed faster, causing itching and dryness. So you should shampoo your hair regularly to remove dead skin cells from the scalp as well increase blood circulation to the hair follicles, thus creating a healthy environment for hair to grow from.

3. Rubbing your hair with a towel

Towel-drying your hair too rough to dry it out in a hurry is another mistake that you need to stop making. When your hair is wet, it is in its weakest state. If you rub your strands with a towel, this can create a harsh friction that can damage hair cuticles and cause frizz. Instead, you can use an old t-shirt made out of microfiber to pat your hair until it is just damp.

4. Not trimming regularly

Not trimming your hair regularly may be the most common hair care mistake that you make. Getting your locks cut frequently is a very important activity you must do. If you do not trim hair often, it can lead to really bad split ends, which may cause damage to hair and hair loss.

5. Brushing your hair when it is wet

Brushing your hair after your shower can damage it seriously. That is because the hair is in its weakest state when it is wet. Plus, wet hair is very elastic, making it more delicate when brushing. Therefore, instead of grabbing the brush immediately after washing your hair, you should wait until it is dry, and detangle your hair with a wide-toothed comb for not torning out strands.

6. Overheating

Blow drying or straightening your hair using the highest heat setting can damage your locks seriously. When exposed to high heat, the cells of the cuticle separate and break off. And once the cuticle is damaged, the hair also loses its smoothness and luster. So try to avoid excessive use of heat styling tools and never blow dry hair while it is still wet.
