Can you believe that it’s November already? What a great month! It’s our chance to show our gratitude to the brave soldiers who’ve fought for our freedom on Veterans Day. Then, we get to feast on our favorite foods while spending quality time with friends and family on Thanksgiving. These two holidays are awesome, but did you know it’s also Men’s Health Awareness Month? Keep reading to learn the basics about “Movember” and why men grow moustaches every November in honor of this occasion.

What is Movember?

Movember is an awareness movement that takes place throughout the month of November. Men are encouraged to grow mustaches in an attempt to draw attention to men’s health issues such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and even suicide. Statistics show that on average, men die 6 years earlier than women from complications that can be prevented.

3 Ways to Support Men’s Health

There are many things your can do to help promote optimal health in men, particularly in regards to testicular, prostate and mental health, which are the main focuses of Movember.

Testicular Health Support

Just like women are encouraged to get their breasts checked often for irregularities, men should add testicular exams to the top of their health to-do list. It’s recommended that you be checked by your doctor once a year, but self-exams should be done frequently at home as well. In addition, your daily lifestyle choices can plan a major role in your testicular health. Here are some things that could help.

  • Find ways to reduce daily stress.
  • Eat a healthy diet.
  • Add turmeric to your diet, supplements or powder both work.
  • Use a hormone balancing supplement, such as Testralin from Metagenics.

Movember is a great reminder to get a status check on our mental health. This month, take a moment to talk to the man in your life about how he’s feeling mentally. Is he stressed, feeling down, or feeling lonely? These are all warning signs that his mental health might be suffering. Here are things that men can do daily to support mental health.

  • Get plenty of vitamin D from sunlight or nutritional supplements.
  • Take folic acid.
  • Eat a healthy diet and exercise.
  • Try ginkgo biloba.

This Movember, take care of yourself and the men in your life. Grow that mustache and take notice of your health. Have a great month!
