About The Protein Works

The Protein Works was founded in 2012 so they do have quite a few years of experience under their belt.

They are not the cheapest sports nutrition brand around but due to their high-quality products and great tasting flavours, they do have a loyal audience.

Lifetime guarantee

Their lifetime guarantee is especially attractive if you are hesitant about trying the brand you haven’t tried before.

If you don’t like any of their products in terms of taste or something else, they will happily replace the product with another one or give you a credit for the value of the product.

It doesn’t matter how long it’s been since you bought the product, whether that’s a week ago or a year ago, you will get your money back! No other brand offers this promise which puts The Protein Works above anybody else and makes this brand well worth trying.

Reward points

Every time you buy from The Protein Works you earn points which you can then redeem against your next purchase. This is nothing new and many brands are doing this but not everybody so this is a positive thing.

What’s more, you also get rewarded if you recommend the brand to your friends or family and then they buy something. In this case, you will get £10 worth of credit (in a form of points).

Review

So far I’ve managed to try quite a few different products from The Protein Works. Some of them I bought myself, some of them I was gifted with. They certainly don’t disappoint on flavour. So if you are looking for some great tasting protein powders and shakes this brand is for you. Here are more details of the products that I’ve tried:

The Protein Works Diet Meal Replacement Review

I am personally not a fan of having shakes instead of a healthy meal as it’s much better for your body to have proper food. However, I know this type of product is really convenient, especially if you are really busy and don’t have time to eat healthy meals. I actually find myself in this situation sometimes as a busy mum of one and since I still want to lose some weight I was happy to try Diet Meal Replacement Extreme which is one of the best sellers from The Protein Works.

Diet Meal Replacement Extreme

I’ve tried the Millionaire’s Shortbread flavour and I can say it’s really yummy, totally delicious! I couldn’t wish for a better flavour for my shake.

To prepare the shake, you need to add 60 g (1.5 scoops) of powder to 400 ml of water or milk. Ideally, you would use a shaker bottle as this just makes things much easier but I couldn’t find my shaker bottle anywhere so I just used a big glass instead and a whisk. Like this, I managed to get rid of most of the clumps and make a delicious “drink” with little foam on top.

1.5 scoops did sound a lot to me but it’s actually only 200 kcal which is not a lot at all for a meal.

The shake is not as thick as I would expect but it’s quite satisfying.

I still have a wish to bite into something after drinking it but I am definitely not feeling hungry any more and I don’t feel hungry again for at least 2.5 hours after having it.

From the recommended serving you will get the following nutrients and vitamins:

  • 24 g protein
  • 6 g fibre
  • 2.7 g fat
  • 0.7 g sugar
  • Vitamin and mineral blend: Potassium Citrate, Sodium Chloride, Potassium Dihydrogen Phosphate, Tricalcium Phosphate, Magnesium Oxide Heavy, Vitamin C, Zinc Gluconate, Ferric Pyrophosphate, Vitamin E Acetate, Potassium Iodide, Vitamin B3, Sodium Selenite, Vitamin A Acetate, Vitamin B5, Copper Gluconate, Manganese Sulphate Monohydrate, D-Biotin, Vitamin B12, Vitamin D2, Vitamin B6, Vitamin B1, Vitamin B2, Folic Acid

From the above, you can quickly see that Diet Meal Replacement Extreme is really high in protein and low in fat and sugar.

The protein comes from different sources: soy, whey protein isolate and Micellar Casein. None of these ingredients seems to be organic which I would prefer.

To make it sweet, sweetener sucralose is used and in my opinion, the sweetness is just perfect – not too sweet and not bitter. However, I would prefer if a more natural sweetener such as stevia was used.

The blend also has an addition of green tea extract which helps to speed up the metabolism and burn fat.

The final verdict

I think as a meal replacement for people who want to lose some weight this product works really well. The high protein and fibre content of this shake will keep your stomach busy for quite some time. Not only that, it will boost your metabolism, helping you drop those pounds faster.

The taste is also great and if you wish you can try other flavours as well such as Caramel Latte and Cookies ‘n’ Cream (there are 16 flavours to choose from).

I am actually not surprised that this product has so many positive reviews online – what customers say is exactly what I experienced.

All in all, this is a great product, the only thing that could be improved is to use organic ingredients and natural sweeteners instead of artificial.

Ridiculous Vegan Protein Bars Review

Over the years, I’ve tried many different types of protein bars so I have an idea of what these normally taste like and the texture you can expect. But vegan protein bars from The Protein Works are totally different. I’ve never tried anything like that before. They are absolutely delicious and they are not sickly sweet or with a weird texture.

I’ve tried two flavours which are new for this year: Triple Chocolate Brownie and Chocolate Biscuit Crunch. At first, I preferred the biscuit flavour but then I got to love both of them. There is some crunch to the biscuit one which is lovely. The chocolate flavour is soft and so rich and satisfying.

Chocolate Biscuit Crunch Vegan Protein Bar - the Protein Works

Both flavours are just under 200 kcal which is quite standard for protein bars.

In terms of ingredients, they both contain protein blend (soy and pea protein) and soya protein nuggets. There is 15 g of protein in one bar which is quite a lot and will help you meet your protein needs on days when your body needs more protein.

I really like that these vegan bars are naturally sweetened with xylitol and stevia although also maltitol (artificial sweetener) is used for a caramel layer. Because sweeteners are used, these bars are low in sugar.

These bars also have an addition of green tea extract which has several health benefits and may help with weight loss.

Another good thing about these bars is their high fibre content (7.2 g per bar). Considering that we should all eat at least 30 g of fibre per day, this is definitely a significant amount (important for healthy digestion!).

The final verdict

These are really tasty vegan protein bars which I am happy to recommend if the taste is important to you.

Like with other Protein Works products, I would prefer if at least some of the ingredients were organic (soy) but at least natural sweeteners are used to sweeten things up although you will also find some maltitol (artificial sweetener) in them.

All in all, there are still lots of good points about these vegan protein bars – low in sugar, high in fibre, high in protein and containing metabolism-boosting green tea extract. On top of that, they are palm oil-free and contain no artificial flavours, colours or preservatives. I would say, give them a try and I think you will definitely like them.

Vegan Wondershake Review

Vegan Wondershake Protein powder from The Protein Works was created to taste just like a dairy shake and it’s a relatively new product.

I got sent the Double Chocolate flavour and I cannot complain about the taste. It’s rich and with perfect sweetness and oh, so satisfying. It’s totally delicious.

Vegan Wondershake

One scoop (25 g) provides 21 g protein which is quite typical for a shake like this.

But I was surprised to see that there are only 89 calories per serving. This is really good for people who are trying to lose weight by reducing their calorie intake and exercising.

Despite the low-calorie count, this shake is really filling and if you have only this you won’t feel hungry for hours.

In terms of ingredients, a special blend of four protein sources is used (pea, brown rice, hemp and soy). This is a premium quality blend with a perfect balance of vegan protein. The shake is low in fat, low in sugar and sweetened with sucrose (artificial sweetener).

Vegan Wondershake is definitely nothing like any vegan protein powder that I’ve tried. It’s really really good, the only thing that disappoints is the use of sucralose to sweeten it. I would prefer if the sweetener was natural, not artificial.

Other products from The Protein Works that I’ve tried:

  • Vegan Protein Powder (Chocolate Silk) – loved this one, a very good flavour and much better than some other vegan protein powders. What sets it apart from other similar products is the addition of digestive enzymes and what’s even more important – it contains five different protein sources to help you consume all the amino acids your body needs.
  • Pea and brown rice protein powders – I’ve tried these two different protein powders when looking for ways to add more protein into my diet. These are good quality and perfect in smoothies. I used to add brown rice protein to my porridge which helped me feel fuller for longer but now I know it doesn’t contain all the amino acids so I prefer to mix things up or buy ready-made blends.
  • Superfood bites – these are a tasty and nutritious snack made of nuts, dried fruits and oats. Perfect for when you are on the go. They are 100% vegan and I am happy to recommend them.

The Protein Works – Final Verdict

After testing several products from The Protein Works, I can easily say that they always deliver on flavour. When it comes to flavour, they are better than any other protein brands that I’ve tried (and I’ve tried quite a few).

You can only expect to find premium ingredients in their products, carefully sourced and tested to ensure they are the best.

Although their products are not the cheapest, keep in mind that you will receive a discount once you accumulate enough reward points (also through referring to friends & family).

And let’s not forget about their lifetime guarantee which nobody offers!

One negative is that although The Protein Works keep bringing innovative products to the market they are a little bit behind when it comes to the use of organic ingredients and natural sweeteners.

Ideally, they would offer more naturally sweetened products but since they are always reviewing their formulas, I am sure this is something to expect in the coming future.
