Forbes 2018 Healthcare Summit: Starting a Health Renaissance

Everything Is Changing, and Now There’s a Chance It’s Changing for the Better

November 28–29, 2018 New York, NY

NEW YORK (November 8, 2018) – Forbes will gather the biggest names in healthcare at Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City on November 28  and 29, 2018, for the seventh annual Forbes Healthcare Summit.

Billionaire John Arnold will explain why he has made injecting market forces into drug pricing his philanthropic cause. Legendary venture capitalist John Doerr will explain what healthcare can learn from tech about setting goals and choosing metrics. The chief executives of Novartis, Bristol-Myers Squibb,  CVS Health,  Humana, Takeda and the Walgreens Boots Alliance will address some of the biggest issues facing their businesses – including a session looking under the hood of two of the biggest pending mergers in the healthcare sector. And that’s before deep dives into the most promising cancer drugs and the hottest biotechnology companies. All told, representatives of companies with an aggregate $ 1.4 trillion in market value will assemble on one stage.

“In healthcare, it always seems that everything is changing,” says Matthew Herper, Forbes’ Senior Editor for Pharma & Healthcare. “Now there’s evidence that it is changing for the better. Obviously, scientific innovation is happening at a rate we’ve never seen before. But we’re also seeing changes in the way companies think about health.”

One example of the changing culture will come from a session in which top executives from health insurers and hospital systems talk about how so-called social determinants of health – things like food, rent, and transportation – are as important as technology in keeping patients healthy. And Forbes will assemble a group of healthcare experts who have seen the system up close as caregivers for patients — including Lucy Kalanithi, widow of Paul Kalanithi, the author of the bestseller When Breath Becomes Air –  to brainstorm about how the healthcare system could be made better. There will also be a wealth of stories from entrepreneurs, including Nat Turner, the chief executive of Flatiron Health, which was purchased by Roche earlier this year at a valuation of $ 2.1 billion.
