Before you take your vows, scan this surprising list. The more items you can check off, the less likely he is to be checking into a hotel with someone who’s not you – aka cheat…

1. He doesn’t hide his animal lust

If he openly drools over your best friend’s lower-back tattoo, laugh it off. It’s when you find a photo of said tat on his phone that you need to worry. “It’s natural to look at those you find attractive. The problem arises when those attractions are acted upon,” says sex and relationship therapist Catriona Boffard. “Looking and commenting once is often innocent, but actual photos and continual comments shouldn’t be brushed off.”

2. You’re his better-looking half

Unattractive men might cheat too, but according to a study published in the Journal of Family Psychology, your chances of marital bliss are better if you’re the beauty and he’s the beast. Of the 82 newlywed couples surveyed, those in which the bride was easier on the eyes reported the most satisfaction.

3. He cries during soppy movies

Sure, few guys besides Dr Phil talk much about their emotions. But if he consistently avoids heartfelt conversations, heed the signs. One study discovered that the more emotionally detached your partner is, the more likely he is to cheat. “Generally, if he doesn’t allow himself to be emotionally vulnerable with you, he’s unlikely to express when he’s unhappy in the relationship and may therefore stray to find that happiness elsewhere,” says Boffard.

4. You don’t always agree

A couple who never fight are not as perfect as they seem, as they’re most likely avoiding conflict and real issues, says Boffard. “Conflict can actually be productive. Ignore issues or constantly use your disagreements against each other, and resentment will build and could lead to cheating.”

5. He goes to church

If you want him to worship you, research shows, it’s better if he worships, period. A study in the Journal of Marriage and Family found that regular churchgoers were less likely to have affairs, regardless of their faith.

6. He’s got a small… pay cheque

One survey found that more men earning a very high salary admitted to cheating than those who earned substantially less. Boffard explains: “Successful people often look to attain a more positive sense of self from others and use their wealth as a means to do this, making affairs more common among high-earning men.”
