diet for 5-week old puppy

Hello, I am rescuing my first puppy next Monday. I keep reading mixed things about feeding them twice or three times a day. Which do you recommend? I have an appointment with a vet on that Friday, but wanted to ask you what you thought, hoping to get an answer before I pick her up. Thanks so much in advance! Congratulations on your newest four-legged addition to your family. I understand the excitement and trepidation that comes with bringing home a furry ball of joy. You want to do right by her and that includes making sure she is getting the correct amount of nutrition.

Creating a feeding schedule for a 5-week-old puppy can help to calm some of the nervousness and anxiety you might be facing in regard to helping them grow and develop successfully. Feeding your 5-week old puppy the wrong thing can have the potential of stunting their growth, getting them sick, or even worse. When coming up with a feeding schedule, it should be realistic and should be able to give you a range of time that will allow you to take care of them while simultaneously taking care of other priorities that may be going on in your life, for example; husband or wife, kids, work, etc. Mentioned earlier, it is important to create a feeding schedule for your puppy that is realistic and that also works around your already existing life schedule. Now, it is important to note that puppies that are only 5-weeks of age have a very short food digestion life cycle.

When you bring a new puppy home at the tender age of 5 weeks, he may not be eating on his own very well. Be prepared for a puppy who gets food stuck in his fur, climbs in the bowl and makes some messes as you transition him from gruel to eating dry food. You will enjoy the sweet smell of puppy breath in short time. Determine the amount of dry puppy food your pup needs by his weight on the package directions. Divide the daily amount by six to get the amount to feed him six times a day. Puppies eat very small amounts often to keep their energy levels up for proper growth and health.
