Are you planning on adding a garage to your home but not sure how much it could end up costing you?

If you are working on a square metre rate, expect a garage to cost anywhere from $ 1200 to $ 1680 per square metre, depending on the size, construction materials you choose and how extensive the project is.

Budget, mid-range or high-end garage?

You have a range of options when it comes to the type of garage you build, specifically relating to the materials, features and type of roof you choose.

Here are three general price points according to hipages, and what features you can expect to get with each:

  • Budget garage (from $ 25,000): standalone, single car bay garage using brick on a concrete slab with a metal roof, manual door and no internal finishes.
  • Mid-range garage (from $ 35,000): a double garage with brick walls, a tiled roof, sealed concrete floor, automated garage and lined walls
  • High-end garage (from $ 50,000): a double or three car bay garage in brick, with a tiled roof, polished concrete floor, custom cabinetry for storage, workbench and a bathroom/shower.

An attached garage is more expensive, but could add more value to your home, while a freestanding version is quicker and cheaper to construct.
