I'm prescribed 1 mg tablets, but I usually halve them and take .5 mg dosages. I haven't ever experienced negative side effects from taking it (with the exception of drowsiness---but that's what I want it to do anyway). As an added bonus, it's a fast-acting and perfect remedy for a bad hangover.
